911 pocket dials a problem
Wingham Police Chief Tim Pool would like to alert the public to an ongoing problem unintentional 911 calls. Poole says that while it isn’t a major issue here, the local department still receives four or five such calls a month.
All 911 calls are taken seriously, and police have a problem locating someone who has “pocket dialed” the emergency number, sometimes without even knowing. Poole says the 911 server records the location on GPS where the call was made, but not where the person went after that.
Unintentional 911 calls “represent a serious threat to public safety and negatively impact police resources,” according to the Ontario 911 Advisory Board (OAB) and the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP). ...please read more in this weeks Wingham Advance Times
