Huron-Bruce Member of Provincial Parliament Carol Mitchell was named Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in Premier Dalton McGuinty’s cabinet shuffle Monday.
“I am very honoured that the premier has chosen me to lead a ministry that is so vital to both the economic stability and rich history of this province. I look forward to getting to work right away and to working with the many stakeholders and farm operators that help keep this province a wonderful place to live and work,” Mitchell said in a prepared statement released Monday evening.
The wide-ranging shuffle sees Mitchell replace Leona Dombrowski, who has been named Minister of Education.
The release said that, “Minister Mitchell will continue the government’s efforts to help our farmers build a thriving rural Ontario through our high-tech agriculture and food sectors.”
Mitchell, who served as Central Huron reeve, and two-term Huron County Warden, was elected MPP in 2003, re-elected in 2007.
