On Jan. 17, the Wingham Midget local league team hosted Minto in an exhibition game, with both teams having eight skaters.
Wingham came out strong, scoring two goals before Minto scored halfway into the first period. The first Wingham goal was scored by Jesse Poels, assisted by Kendal Vanderveen with the second goal scored by Nick Chippa, assisted by Ben Underwood.
With 1:28 left in the first, Johnny Franken scored, assisted by Vanderveen.
In the second period Minto was scoreless, but two and half minutes into the period, Poels scored again for Wingham, assisted by John Simpson and Vanderveen.
With four and a half minutes left, Franken scored unassisted and 30 seconds into the third period, he added another, assisted by Poels. Eleven seconds after that, Franken again scored, with an assist from Christopher Franken.
Minto came back with two quick goals at 13:50 and 13:22, but the final goal of the game was scored by Poels at 6:04, assisted by Christopher Franken and Chippa.
