Lancers face Winterhawks

The Lucknow Lancers will open their 2010 playoffs against the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks after finishing up their regular season on the weekend with a pair of wins to end with a 9-10-1 record and 17 points.
The Lancers will visit the Winterhawks in game one of their best-of-three series Friday night at 8:30 p.m. with game two in Lucknow Saturday at 8 p.m.
Game three will be Feb. 5 in Port Elgin at 8 p.m. The winner of the series will compete for the ‘AA’ title while the loser will be on the ‘A’ side of the playoffs.
Finishing first in the northern conference and in the league overall was Elora with a perfect record of 20 wins, with the Shelburne Muskies second in the conference at 27 points.
The Winterhawks had a 12-5-0 record for third in the conference at 27 points.
Friday in Lucknow, the Ripley Wolves took a 2-0 lead in the first, but goals from Ryan Murley and Tyler Devos before the period was over made it 2-2 going into the second.
The Wolves again took the lead midway through the period but Brad Burton tied it at three with 1:56 remaining in the period before Mark Stanley fired the lone goal of the third for the 4-3 Lucknow win.
The Lancers were in Drayton on Sunday and came away with an 11-4 win.
