With two games left in the regular season, the Wingham Ironmen remain three points back of the Kincardine Bulldogs after splitting two games on the weekend.
Walkerton leads the league with 56 points, while Mitchell and Hanover remain tied at 46 points, with Kincardine at 39 and Wingham at 36. Mount Forest follows, with 14 points, and Goderich lags with 11 points to their name.
The Ironmen defeated the Goderich Sailors 4-3 Friday night before a 6-1 loss in Hanover on Saturday.
In Friday night’s game, after a scoreless first period, Wade Stephenson put the Ironmen on the board with the only goal of the second period, before the teams found their offence in the third with a total of six goals.
After Goderich tied it early in the third, Graham Ashcroft notched a pair of markers at 3:23 and 6:15 for a 3-1 Wingham lead. Goderich replied with a pair of goals a minute apart at 8:37 and 9:37 to tie it at three again before Adam Corbett fired the game-winner at 15:40.
Saturday night in Hanover, it was all Barons in the first period as they opened the scoring 23 seconds in and added three more in the period for a 4-0 score at the end of the first period.
Hanover extended their lead at 6:40 of the second before Brady Houston got the Ironmen on the board a minute later, but it was all Wingham would get as Hanover added another in the third for the 6-1 win.
Wingham has one game this weekend Friday night when Mount Forest visits at 8 p.m. and the Ironmen finish the regular season Feb. 12 when Hanover visits also at 8 p.m.
