Two men made a video appearance in Goderich Court Tuesday morning after being charged with the murder of 22-year-old Scott Hayes of Wingham Friday night. They will make another appearance tomorrow to attempt to set a bail hearing.
Brothers Chris Ward, 25, and Ronald Ward, 26, both face a charge of second degree murder.
The body of Hayes was found in a parking lot behind Josephine Street Friday night at around 9 p.m. on Feb. 12. The Wingham Police Service requested the Ontario Provincial Police Criminal Investigation Branch to assist with the investigation of the death, which was treated as suspicious at the time.
OPP were calling it a homicide by Sunday afternoon and they released the name of the deceased. At that time, they had laid one second degree murder charge against C. Ward, of the Wingham area. A second suspect was also being sought at that time.
On Monday morning, the second suspect was taken into custody.
R. Ward of Culross Township was also charged in connection to the homicide.
Both suspects remain in custody in Walkerton jail.
A post mortem on Hayes was conducted over the weekend, but the results and the cause of death have not been released.
Funeral arrangements for the slain father of two are set for tomorrow (Thurs., Feb. 18) at 11 a.m. at McBurney Funeral Home. Condolences will be received today (Feb. 17) at McBurney Funeral Home from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Police maintain this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.
