The Wingham Golf and Curling Club kicked off their bonspiel season this past weekend, holding the country mixed spiel. The Millen team from Teeswater were the winners of the first draw. The team was skipped by Wayne Hauch, with Tutor Borho, Joyce and Lorne Millen. The second draw skip Mac Inglis with teammates Marie Stewart, Audrey and Earl Fitch went home victorious. Bonspiel organizers Marg Moffat and Ross Peacock again did a fantastic job putting on this event and thanks go out to them from all the curlers and clubs.
In other bonspiel action, the team of Stewart Leedham, John Mann, Bruce Robertson and Al Webster took part in a masters bonspiel held in Listowel last week. The boys had a great two days, with the team from Listowel, skipped by Doug Rathwell, going away with the victory. The Wingham Bantam girls team of Ashley Forster, Stacey Hallahan, Kara and Kelsie Eadie represented the club in a bonspiel near Hamilton this past weekend.
In regular league action on Monday Jan. 16, the daytime curlers winning teams were Roy Aitchison, Wendell Stamper, Glen McMichael, Jim Taylor, Bob Crawford and Wayne Forster. Monday night men saw Bob Johnston, Stewart Leedham and Ken Wood skip their teams to wins.
The Tuesday ladies picking up wins were Kelsie Eadie, Leanne and Emily Elston. Tuesday competitive action had Earl Fitch and Jim Ross curl their teams to victory. The Wednesday mixed teams going home with victories were Jill Eadie, Jennifer Elston and Scott Bridge.
Thursday daytime skips winners were Bob Johnston, Bruce Robertson, Clayt Ruppel, Glen McMichael, Jim Taylor and Les Shaw. In Belgrave league action, Larry Robinson, Dave Linton and Bruce Howson’s teams came away winners. Friday night Lynn Hickey and Bill McDonald helped skip their teams to the win.
This Saturday, the club hosts the country men’s bonspiel, followed by the ladies Feb. 4 and the sweetheart spiel on Feb. 11-12. These spiels are looking for teams or any curlers who are looking for some good games and great fun.
 
Out of the hack news

The Thursday family league that starts weekly at 6:30 p.m. and the Friday mixed league at 7:30 p.m. are looking for any curlers who would like to join in, or simply come out to practice, learn and have some great curling fun. Anyone interested to participate, feel free to drop in on these two nights.
