It was an OFSAA of fourths recently as 10 members of the F.E. Madill Nordic ski team traveled to Midland Feb. 24-26 for the most competitive races of the season.
Junior girls Michelle Studhalter and Kelsey Morgan had their best races of the season placing 55th and 63rd out of 140 of the fastest skiers from all across Ontario while Erin Yungblut placed fourth individually in the senior girls 5.4-km race (she missed gold by only 9.8 seconds).
The senior girls team of Emily, Erin and Madeline Yungblut and Julie-Anne Staehli also placed fourth overall in the individual races, while in their sprint relay on Friday, the senior girls qualified in the heats for the final, the first time a Madill team made it to the final in many years.
The girls skied their hearts out and finished in a strong fourth place.
Ron Groen placed seventh overall in the senior boys race with a time of 24.9 min for his nine-kilometre race, while senior boys Matt Underwood, Matt Nivins and Ben Underwood also had fantastic races on a really tough course and put forth their best effort yet on the team sprint relays on Friday. This was a fantastic showing for the team, considering their young average age, with only two skiers set to graduate this year. Congratulations to all skiers this year for a fantastic and fun season.
