The Wingham Atom Optimist Reps headed to Tara over the weekend for a tournament, playing Bruce Peninsula in the opener Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, Brody Hunt put them on the board assisted by TJ Moores, before Colton Dunn came in from centre to score the second goal unassisted.
Hunt then notched up two more, and Cam Hoskins added two goals and two assists, with Jordan Pham and TJ Moores with 28 seconds to go in the game, found the back of the net for his first goal of the year.
Sam Marston was the MVP for the game.
Game two was against Listowel on Saturday and again a strong showing by the boys with a lot of passing and hard work at the net gave them a 5-0 win against a very hot Listowel goalie.
Leslie Irvine started them off, assisted by Hoskins, and Pham put them up 2-0 at the start of the second period, assisted by Maison Nesbitt and Hunt.
Hunt also scored to start the third period, assisted by Moores, then Ryan Gangl shot a beauty from the blueline, with an assist to Moores.
Hoskins closed it out by Nesbitt and the MVP for the game was Irvine.
The win put the boys in the semifinal on Sunday against Ilderton, a very ‘big’ team who had yet to be scored on.
Hoskins tied the game late in the first and Landon Anderson Johnston put them ahead 2-1 in the second.
The boys had to work hard as the penalty calls were up against Wingham, and Ilderton was able to use this to their advantage to win 7-2.
The MVP for the game was Hunt and next up for the Atoms is the second round this weekend with games against Blyth and Kincardine.
