On a very warm July 7 night, the Wingham Hitmen hosted the Fullarton ‘A’s for a Huron County League fastball game.
The Hitmen got on the board in the second inning when #88, Devin Connor hit one out of Optimist park for a home run.
Ty Brown later knocked in Dennis Wintemute, giving the Hitmen an early 2-0 lead.
Connor continued his excellent night at the plate by cashing in two more runs in the third and the Hitmen went on to add three more runs in the sixth inning.
Veteran pitcher Jason Daw pitched a great four-inning shutout by striking out six of the 17 Fullarton batters he faced and earning the win.
Rookie George Armstrong came on in relief in the fifth, throwing two shutout innings and fanning four Fullarton batters himself for a 7-0 Wingham final
The win gives the Hitmen an 8-2 record for the year and the lead in the HCFL North Division.
The Wingham boys were at home Tuesday night against the Wroxeter Rippers.
The Hitmen will also be holding their annual fundraising co-ed slo-pitch tournament July 16, 17 and 18 at the Optimist and Riverside fields in Wingham. A refreshment tent will be on site - feel free to come out and enjoy the tournament.
The Hitmen thank all the fans who come out to watch and cheer. Their continued support is very much appreciated.
