The North Perth Peewee Outlaws lacrosse team has competed in three playoff round robin games.
The Outlaws came up a little short, losing in overtime to both Owen Sound and Milton but defeated an undefeated Guelph team handily. This placed them in the ‘B’ championship Monday night versus Owen Sound while Guelph will play either of the other two teams in the ‘A’ championship.
Against Owen Sound, the Outlaws outchanced their opponents greatly but defensive lapses proved costly. The boys took an early lead in the third period only to find themselves fighting to tie the game with 2:22 left to play in regulation time.
It only took Owen Sound 31 seconds to score in overtime as the Outlaws failed to play strong defence in their own end for a final score of 7-6 for Owen Sound.
It was the same story against Milton where the Outlaws controlled much of the game but a lack of sound defensive play gave Milton the opportunities they needed.
Milton scored on a turnover, which resulted in a breakaway with 1:57 remaining in the third period to force overtime.
In overtime the Outlaws gained first possession after winning the faceoff but an undisciplined interference call away from the play resulted in Milton gaining possession of the ball. They scored just 28 seconds later when the Outlaw defence broke down for a 4-3 win for Milton.
Guelph stormed into Wingham with two wins but North Perth would not be intimidated and came away with a convincing 11-4 win.
Peewee coach Darcy Herrfort said the North Perth boys need to commit to playing solid defence and the results will improve greatly.
He added “protect your ‘house’ boys and you should have good results at the provincials in two weeks. Go Outlaws.”
